I have 2 twenty year old mini vans. I seem to remember yearly registration on each was twenty some dollars.

Just renewed for one year and it was $59.

What just happened? Is my memory wrong?

You might be experiencing the $32 fee that was recently implemented. It has been controversial and will eventually go away, but not in time for your renewal this year:

What a crock. One more reason to hate and never trust the government.

Were used to older cars being $10-25 a year now you see it's $50-65 reminds me of state west of us trying to force people into electric cars. They claim state needs money for public safety what I don't get now the same people who passed the law are outraged about it. I kind of smell a lobbyist or some kind of back room deal was done here. This wasn't really reported in the news until after it was passed started showing up on renewals. I would rather see 1 penny on fuel tax doesn't hit everyone so hard like this does some people it's nothing always have a new car whats $32 lot of people who live on tight budget it is something.

How are they forcing people to buy electric cars?

My renewal was $204. Don't expect any sympathy from me on your $32 increase.

The tag price is one tax I don't mind paying. I don't like it, but since I can see it at work on the 101, 202, 303 and other roads, I'm not complaining. Especially not after spending a week in San Antonio and driving on their sorry roads and highways.

Even with the increase our VLT is far less than most states. We can’t really complain. “Creep” is my concern.

At least it’s not Japan where the tax goes UP as the vehicle gets older. This is exactly how they keep old, poorly maintained cars off the road.

what got me was our governor said the state had plenty of surplus cash. Then he goes ahead and tacks 32 bucks on our plates. Thats a big hit on people living on S.S. plus not to mention the inspection fee.

$32 IS a big jump, especially for those used to paying $50 or less. That can practically double the cost to renew. I like to renew for 2 years, so that's $64 more I will be paying unless it's done away with before I renew next year. (not holding my breath)
