If they are actually receiving their benefits, I should think that would be enough for waiters, hair stylists, etc, to get by. It's probably more than a lot of them make when they're working(?)

Small business owners seem like the ones who are really in a bad spot. Getting government assistance is a lot trickier and questionable for them.

I don't mind if people get more in unemployment insurance vs their jobs - it gives the incentive to stay home until it's safe to go back to work. It also shows how stupidly low wages are in comparison. We have and have had a wage problem for decades now and it's being exposed.

Well the stimulus package passed heavily favored large businesses. There simply isn't enough large businesses to warrant the $500B + specific industries made available as compared to people and small businesses only got $600-700B. There's many many more small businesses and people hence the criticism of "socialism for the rich, bootstrap capitalism for the poor".

Plus 2.2T is a drop in the bucket in terms of amount spent. GDP is 22T, if the consumer economy is 70%, that means it's 15.4T and if we assume 80% of that shut down that's still 12.3T all vying for roughly 40% of that 2.2T. There's going to be winners and losers unless Congress passes a legitimately sized stimulus to fully address the problem - and passing a stimulus only for small businesses and people.

Are you willing to see the economy destroyed and people lives shattered based on faulty computer models? The health ramifications of people not getting healthcare, loosing income, closing their business, going bankrupt will far exceed the minimal risk of opening everything up. Look at Sweden.

Please tell us exactly WHO is "playing" you and for what reason?

Oh, wait, you CAN'T.

That would indicate there's a more fundamental problem at play than C-19 alone. If after only six weeks, give or take, folks are willing to start getting risky with other people's health as well as their own to feed the bulldog, maybe there've been a few decisions along the way might have been better made. None of those decisions have much to do with standing up for your freedom, the minute folks start running up their credit cards, that ship already sailed. Gore Vidal said something along the lines that when you saddle a man with car payments and a mortgage, you can make him do what whatever you want. Some freedom in that huh?

Easy answer: Elect government officials that have your interests at heart. The government is only as good as those you select to run it.

Agreed. I used to think Ducey was a breath of fresh air compared to our last two Governors because he's been focused primarily on business & the economy like he should be. Lately, however, he has proven himself to be a spineless milksop by caving in to the Chicken Littles.

Same here ... although I think this virus has already been around in some form since last year. I know somebody at work whose husband came down with a sickness around Thanksgiving last year, and the symptoms were nearly identical to COVID 19. He was diagnosed with "bronchitis" and was put on antibiotics. Yes, it does largely depend on the individual. Those with certain pre existing health conditions are more susceptible to not only acquiring this virus, but having much more adverse effects ... especially those whose underlying health issues are largely self inflicted!

Absolutely, and they are the ones who are having to close down their entire operations (permanently in many cases) because of all these draconian restrictions.

It would be nice to see an increase in personal responsibility coming out of this experience, but I am not hopeful. I truly don't understand how so many people, and businesses, can feel comfortable existing right on the edge of a financial cliff. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

I haven't posted in a while but I need to get the word out!! Oh my God! I don't know how to say this!! In Washington, they have hired TRACERS. They have set up camps!! You will be forced into these camps if you've had contact with a positive case. This is insane! Now Cuomo reported this morning that we will need an ARMY, got that, an ARMY to trace everyone!!

This is going totally off the rails!! What can we do as citizens to fight back!!

You saw what they did to people in China! It's looking more and more like China every day here in America!!

What can we do?? All of us!! How can we make a difference?

Or is it over? Is there really nothing we can do at this point??

This is insane!!

They just announced we need 5 million tests a day to open safely!! Are you kidding me?
