I am putting in an inground pool (8,400 approx gallons) along with a spa (500 gallons). Infloor pool cleaning system and salt water system, in Phoenix metro area.

I am estimating about $350 a month for expenses, I am planning to hire a weekly pool guy and this would include electrical and gas costs (gas heater) along with any additional costs I may have. I plan to not heat the pool at all (except on rare occasions) but use the heater for the spa on a fairly regular basis, especially during the winter months.

Is this a reasonable?

New variable speed pumps don't really cost too much, I think I noticed maybe an $8 increase in electric tops after installing my pool.

It will cost you a fortune in gas to heat your pool.

If it is not built yet, ditch the in floor cleaning system. They are a waste of money and I have never seen one that actually worked well enough to justify the cost.

With a salt system, not sure why you would really need a weekly pool guy. You really only have to dump a little liquid chlorine in during the hottest months, otherwise this person won't be doing too much.

Disagree about the cleaning system. Mine works and is nicer than all that tubing sitting in your pool.

I realize if I heat the entire pool yes, but do you think using the spa 3-4 times a week will be that costly during Dec-Feb? Just curious?

We use our spa constantly. Like 2-3 times per week easily. With gas heat in a 4100 sq. ft. house we rarely see a $200 gas bill. $100-someodd is usually plenty. You should be fine.
