No surprise when companies don't want regulators stepping in, but utilities seems to get away with more here than they may elsewhere.

Arizona utility regulators again reject clean energy rules

Want to quit APS? Legislators are backing a plan to make sure that can never happen.
Arizona's monopoly utilities don't want you ever to have a choice in where you get your electricity. And the Arizona Legislature is working on a plan to make sure they get their wish.

Mandating that a Utility get 100% of it's power from 'clean' energy is ridiculous. Good for them for voting it down, sanity still exists somewhere....

The problem with these utility companies is they are monopolies. When that happens, there is no room for competition, which isn't good. If I'm dissatisfied with my phone carrier, I can always tell them to stick it where the sun doesn't shine because there are others out there which can offer competitive prices, and could be better or worse when it comes to service. This doesn't exist with power companies. You're basically stuck with APS or SRP depending on where their lines are.

Having experience with both APS & SRP, I personally think SRP is the better of the two, but not by much. The answer is not more regulations or Legislative action ... in fact, the opposite should happen. There should be more choices available for customers when it comes to any service, including where they get their electricity. If certain people prefer "clean energy", it should be an easily available option, but it doesn't have to be through APS if other companies could provide the service.

I agree completely...! Monopolies are no bueno. And yes, if someone wants to purchase
'clean energy', they should be able to pay extra and get what they want......Good points!

Arizona has some of the cheapest electricity rates in the country. Excessive regulation drives the price of anything up.

What plan do you have I pay 5 cents off peak and 12 cents on peak with APS. Between 3-8pm peak time during the weekday we keep our usage to a minimum. Compared to California our power rates are much cheaper. My uncle lives there his summer monthly cost is $700 2800 SF home we hit max of $350 in July and August.

No plan in either place.

13.4 cents a kilo-watt hour in Arizona.

2.7 cents a kilo-watt hour in Washington.

APS customer using?

Fixed Energy Charge Plan
Tier 3: 1,000 kWh or more average monthly energy use – 13.478¢/kWh

You might want to look into one of the other cheaper plans. I'm assuming your not here in the summer your in Washington?
