I'm not a hiker myself, but I thought I'd share this for anyone interested, including future travelers.

Hiking Down to Phantom Ranch, the Grand Canyon’s ‘Destination Hotel’
The entire point of the unique place is the experience involved in getting there.

They want money to read their article.

If interested try here. https://www.nps.gov/grca/index.htm They're saying you have to reserve a room at Phantom Ranch 15 months in advance.

The Grand Canyon is beautiful. It was also busy the last time I hiked down to Indian Gardens.

More complicated than booking in advance. You have to win a booking lottery. Tried 3 times (as did the old man). All 6 attempts failed.

I did that hike to Phantom Canyon in my early twenties. We stayed there overnight awaiting our raft for a trip down the river.

I remember that my legs really hurt that next morning. Your muscles used to go downhill don't get much of a workout in normal life.
