Very safe...good areas and not-so-good like anywhere, but a very popular spot for seniors. Good shopping, good hospital, hot summers but not Phoenix hot, mild winters. Not a lot of work there...it's a smaller town...but it would be a good senior or retirement area. in my opinion.

Here in Central Arizona, Cottonwood is the best choice for reasons other posters mentioned. Expect most residents (especially seniors) to be inside most of the day in the summer - it's hot. Most people out here do their summer outdoor stuff in the early morning and late evening hours when it's cooler. There is a senior center and local shuttle bus transportation for getting around to shopping and medical appointments. Nearby towns include: Cornville, Rimrock, Lake Montezuma, Jerome, Clarkdale, and Sedona. Cornville and Clarkdale are closest towns in proximity to Cottonwood. Sedona is cost prohibitive to all but those with deep pockets (unless you find a manufactured home where you lease the land it sits on). You also have the Prescott Valley/Prescott area (see posts about these areas) which has very good senior services, medical care, housing - but the town of Prescott is a pricey place for buying a house even though prices have dipped a little. Some people find the altitude and/or the occasional high winds in the Prescott area to be unfavorable. In summation, both the Prescott and Cottonwood areas are senior friendly.
