Why gated communities in Scottsdale? People don't buy because of crime, they buy for social reasons and status. Grayhawk communities range from the 900k range and is building up more in construction. Very afluent area where only the rich can survive but it's so new, your cable connections will not work well, nor will your cell phone
I live in Grayhawk and have great cell phone reception. I can't comment on the cable though (have Directv instead).

Homes here start at about $600K (not $900K); it just depends on the size and the view (views are a big thing down here, they can add $100K-$200K and above on the price of the home).

Grayhawk is one of the classic bland and soulless master plan developments sprouting all over the Southwest. Tiny lots with rows and rows of cookie cutter stucco boxes aligned in a barracks formation. Sense of alienation prevails, due to high population turnover and natural disaster season ,(May thru October),forces residents indoors. For example, about a year ago, a rented home (many) in Grayhawk, was a drop/safe house for illegal immigrants for almost a year, as oblivious neighbors had no clue. When finally raided, more than 80 illegals came running out in all directions, overwhelming the authorities.

Elementary schools accceptable, but problems start to escalate with middle school and reach crisis levels at surrounding high schools due to plethora of drugs and teen promiscuity. Most of it due to the staggering number of divorced, remarried, re-re-married and single parents in Scottsdale, a sad collection of broken people and families with a lot of baggage taking a toll on younger minds.
Perhaps the vulgar displays of consumerism, plastic surgery mania, vain "look-at-me" attitudes and bimbo culture in Scottsdale are ways to cope and mask their vacuous existence.

Well first off Grayhawk is not "bland and souless"; many of the homes are custom. Different developers were used so you don't see 20 homes in a row all of the same style. And while a small margin of the homes are of the same style; what's wrong with conformity? Millions upon millions of people live in subdivisions and I'd venture to guess that 90% are happy there. After you get off work, it's nice to get back to a tranquil area where you don't need to deal with the hustle and bustle of the city.

And secondly; what is this "natural disaster season" you speak ok? I have yet to see a tornado, hurricane, flood, etc in Phoenix. What do you think constitutes a natural disaster? We have dust storm but I have yet to see one take a roof off of a house.

I think he's talking about the HEAT. Yep, that makes me have to rebuild my home every year!
