Several counties have spent billions installing these camera devices, but why?
Revenue.
Several studies show that these cameras not only increase accidents but don't reduce the number speeders / red light runners. There are several different ways to reduce these violations that don't include a set of 15 million dollar cameras... They aren't even real tickets... you don't have to pay them and they are dropped after 120 days of violation... Several schools around the U.S. are struggling to get by, dropping programs, losing credibility, and we are spending money on these ridiculous cameras.

The loss in credibility is the idiotic lawmakers that have written the loopholes for speeding~ if they made the camera tickets equal to any ordinary ticket and enforced at 1 mph over limit it would make our roads much safer and stop the scofflaws that feel that laws are to be broken! Its the legislature and the speeders that are making a laughingstock of Az~ not the cameras!

Photo radar cameras don't improve safety at all... in fact the speed cameras cause an increase in accidents.

Hmmm. Links (probably again) to these 'studies' that show an increase in accident rates due to them please.

As for the loss of revenue to schools....so if there was money spent to put them up next to a school and some of that money went to the school district; you'd be against them right?

Just trying to wrap my mind around that connection. Given the money goes to the State...the State needs funds...you advocate not paying the tickets anyhow...and then whine there's no money for the State to spend. I'm not following your logic here.

I'm not totally fore or against them but I'll call out for more info on the INCREASED accident rate and how you can want more money spent by not finding ways to generate it. Please advise.

Works for me..

radarhunter.com

Click on Camera Controversy...

Also, the camera revenue doesn't go towards schools... at all. The city expects to make several millions more than they actually do.. a good percentage of people don't pay the tickets, therefore when quarter comes around they don't make nearly what they expected... The whole process is a joke as far is public safety and saving lives.. just the way they spun it to get the project approved.
