Looking at moving back out to AZ. Have already asked about Globe and Safford.

Would like to get an idea of Payson and Show Low. Again most interested in scenery, outdoor activities (road biking and hiking mostly). Don't need night life but a few eating joints would be good. Need to probably know about winter climate. I do realize that SL is more isolated than Payson

Would also like to know about housing, and medical facilities as I am a physical therapist (with a nest egg for a house).

Finally, I hear a lot about Pinetop and Lakeside (Show Low) and Pine and Strawberry (Payson). Any info about them would be appreciated regarding what is there compared to the main cities.

Thank You

EG

Default Az Towns

I traveled Arizona while I was selling Encyclopaedia Britannica. I would recommend you looking at Weikedia.com and compare the towns. Also, googlemaps.com will provide maps and satellite images for each area. I hope this will assist !!!

I would say the main point is that both are very beautiful and offer many of the same things. Strawberry/Pine has closer proximity to Phoenix and Flagstaff, about an hour and a half drive away from each.

Default show low vs payson

I have lived in both , show low is not nearly as isolated as payson, there is MUCH more to do in show low. pinetop/lakeside is only a short 10 minute drive away.
payson has absolutely nothing except a casino, bowling alley and a few places to eat. there are places to hike, it does have a few small towns, strawberry and pine about 20 minute drive away. there is not much in pie or strawberry, the are more of a tourist type place.
the show low pinetop/lakeside area has a go cart track, bowling alley,a casino about 20 miles away, lots of hiking areas, lakes, horse back riding and more places to shop. there are other small towns nearby. holbrook is about an hour away as well as the petrified forest.
although I am having to move again, I would say without a doubt the show low area is a much better choice.
the differences in landscape is payson with scrub oak and pines and showlow with junipers and scrub oaks. lakeside/pinetop is tall pines.
housing is more affordable in the show low area, but rising rapidly. show low area is higher elevation, so it is cooler.
hope that helps you.

If you don't have problems with altitude, then you can pick any of those towns that tickles your fancy. If, on the other hand, you have any sort of respiratory problem that might affect how well you can tolerate high altitudes, you might want to avoid northern AZ entirely.

I am moving to Show Low this month. Lots more to do there. Hiking, fishing, a casino, ski resort close. I am moving from So Calif to get away from the fast paced life.
