I am wondering what it cost to renew your car license plates each year? Here in Texas, our Hondas go for about $50-60 a year each. Also, you have state instpection stickers( emissions, safety stuff, etc)? How much do those go for. Thanks for the answers.

Plates are a percentage of the vehicles value, so the more a vehicle is worth, the more your plate costs.
Prices go down over time, finally ending up around $20 or so for older cars.

Inspection (emissions) is only in the Phx and Tucson areas, the rest of the state doesn't have it. I am in a non-emission county, I think the state charges me $1 for emissions. Why? I don't know.

We don't have to have our cars inspected in Arizona. However, there is a toll free number that other drivers can report you to if they see black smoke coming out of your tailpipe.

To repeat what Curly said, your registration fee will be based off of your vehicle's worth. You also have the option of choosing to register your car for one year or two years, which, of course, will also adjust the cost of registration.

If you drive a 2006 or later year model you will NOT have to get emissions testing. If you do, emissions tests are $12.25 in the Tucson area and $27.75 in the Phoenix area. You will be required to get emissions tests every 2 years.

Some newer vehicles only need to have the emissons done every 4 years, my Nissan was this way but not sure what years it applies to.

Registration is not expensive, like someone else said it's based on vehicle vaule. My registration was $45 for 2 years this past year.

Many parts of Az you dont need to do the smog check thing. And cost of registration varies accordingly to the car, year, make and model. Then if youre like I am, and have personalized plates, its about 35 bucks a year more.

Thanks for the many answers. It sounds like it is cheaper to have a car in in AZ than TX.

Use the formula on the website above to get an estimate. A car that old should not be too expensive. My 2001 Nissan Maxima was less than $100 to renew this month.

But new cars are really expensive, right?

From another Texan wanting to move to N. AZ. where it is cooler. :-)
