Hi all,
I'm looking for employment in Little Rock as an RN and trying to determine where to apply. It would be nice to find something comparable to what I'm making now in AZ at about $33/hr. I have experience as triage RN, nurse leader and med-surg primarily in a clinical setting.
Any info would be great!

Thanks in advance,
Kris

Since my RN wife retired a few years ago I don't know what the pay scale is now. There's two major hospitals, Baptist and St Vincent, one major do everything clinic (Little Rock Diagnostic Clinic). And there is Heart Hospital in L.R. and Baptist and St Vincent satellite hospitals in North Little Rock and Sherwood. There's also other large stand alone clinics; surgery, ortho, neuro, urology, etc. Good luck and welcome to the Natural State.

Bap vs St V is like, I like a Chevy and you like a Ford. As I'm sure you have already learned I like working for one hospital and you like the other. I've known RNs to leave Bapt for St V and after a short while come back "home", while others stay and think it was a great move. St V just won a super high award for their Nursing Service but I don't remember what it was.

Don't discount the Med Center either, which is actually UAMS, VA, and Children's all under the same umbrella. Their pay scale may not be as high, but the benefits, paid holidays, etc. add up to a goodly chunk every year....they also have an education option that will help pay for furthering if you decide to go RNP or something, and the retirement benefits are pretty great. I'm pretty sure they are still paying a pretty substantial differential for WEO. It's a world class cancer research center if you are interested in oncology at all, but of course they cover it all.

Good luck to you!

EDIT: The VA is actually a fed job, of course - you'd have to apply with all 3, but my understanding is that if after a period of time you wanted to transfer from the Med Center to Children's that you'd have first option over a new hire. I could be wrong on that...I know it works that way in some departments.

Thank you both very much for the response. As I've begun my search it is hard to pinpoint one particular area to look for work. I know its wishful thinking, but it would be nice to narrow down my search and hopefully have some interviews set up. I'm hoping the more information I learn the more successful I'll be with this plan.

Thanks again,

Kris
