This old man was killed by a SWAT team while shooting through a door at them.. surely they could have found another way , as the man must have been deranged at the time..

They had the training to handle this kind of situation and if they put a camera in they could see how old he was surely.. no it shouldnt have been done..they were trigger happy..

I think if they had backed off and waited him out he might have fallen asleep from the stress of it all. And I don't say that because of his age but due to the situation, I've seen it happen with much younger suspects when I was a cop. How long did they try to talk to him, who were the people he supposedly threatened? Were they family? Were these people threatening to put him in a nursing home? If he had family he was close to, did they get them to talk to him? Did he have a friend or a family Doc that could have spoken with him, did they even try that? These are all questions I've not found addressed in the brief reports of the story. Pretty damn poor reporting, it's like they all shared the same press release and did nothing more. Reporters today are a joke.

These days agencies are counting the amount of money its costing them, they don't want to wait 12 hours or more on someone. Every case is different, but this old guy wasn't an escape, or a killer thug. Had they backed off and waited, I bet they could have taken him alive. Who's to say what triggered him, something obviously did. Had he wanted to "suicide by cop" he would have been charging cops rather than retreating to the back bedroom. We will never know for certain the reason why.

Have to agree with you Todd.... he hadnt killed anyone, although he might have done, but surely men with the training they had could have handled this differently but as you say, we ll probably never know.

I am sure we will get more details in our paper this morning, then it will be a little easier to understand what happened. I wonder why this wasn't on the news last night?

What difference does age make when someone is shooting at you? Are bullets shot from a 107 year old man's gun any less lethal than bullets shot from a 25 year old man's gun?

Now they killed an old man over 100 years old. Why, they must be proud. One of the SWAT team probably took home the old man's false teeth as a trophy.
Welcome to Tin Foil Hat country.

Welcome to Tin Foil Hat country.
I totally agree, guns kill if they are being pointed at someone and the trigger is pulled, regardless of the age of the individual. Cops have a job to do, they don't always have time to question. I just read the story as reported this morning in the Pine Bluff newspaper. If the facts are right and we have to assume they are right now, it is a tragedy to say the least. The police seem to have done all they could to reason with the old man, but no one told them he was legally blind. I am thinking, the poor guy might still be alive had 1- the cops had more information and 2-he lived in a controlled residence instead where he could have had better supervision. I am thinking, and I don't know the facts, he probably, not only was blind but didn't have all his mental capacities either.

I hope this turn into a "Lets have more gun control" agenda. I am afraid it will, especially when you see where the story seems to have broken.

Over zealous idiots.. the old man was in an enclosed space, not running round the streets shooting, they could have waited.. and they must have been told about the mans condition and age surely..
