I understand what you are saying, but none of us have heard the entire story at this time. We have no right to be judgmental on either side. Maybe, when more details are released we will all have a better idea of what happened, how it happened and why it happened. You are assuming the police knew something about him, but none of us know that at this time.

Your right, but I keep thinking that they put a camera into the room and must have seen how old the man was even if no one told them , it seems he was blind and part deaf.. to me though he was contained in the room and it could have been dealt with better...

Blind, deaf and 107 years old yet they shot him anyway? Are you telling me that a well trained SWAT team couldn't overcome this man without killing him?

Unless there is an imminent threat to the safety of other people, there was no reason to enter the home to "get the bad guy".

SWAT had set up a perimeter (if they didn't they are incompetent) through which the man should not have been able to escape. They had a camera inside so they knew what was going on. That old man presented no threat to others than his initial shooting of the firearm but once that was over, you don't then base you actions on what he did but what he can do.

So think this through. SWAT has an established perimeter. They had tried negotiating with him. He wasn't going anywhere and even if he tried, with properly trained marksman (SWAT does not use "snipers"), there was no way this man was going to exit the house with a weapon and do anything but get shot if he tried.

SWAT had time on their side. What was the incident commander thinking? Why risk the lives of SWAT officers in entering a house with an armed suspect unless there was imminent threat to the safety of other people?

The man shot through the door. Ok, that is a threat but once he stopped shooting, that threat while not over, has ceased to be an active one.

Where was the intelligence gathering. The research to determine if he had relatives or friends that knew something about him to help determine why and what was really going on? mod cut

When they got the camera inside they knew he had a handgun. SWAT has sub-machine guns, rifles, shotguns, high capacity pistols, chemical agents, and most of all

TIME!

This was shameful and I sure hope SWAT didn't go home to beat on their chests over this one.

Are we now accepting that all the capabilities of the police to instantly or nearly so, find so much information on you yet they couldn't find anything out about this man? Then what the heck are we spending all this money on?

It took what, a dozen or more SWAT officers to take out this 107 year old man armed with a handgun? Absolutely shameful.

I guess the first time that someone shoots at me I'm gonna have to ask him for some proof of age before I shoot at him. Oh yeah, an eye test and a hearing test too.
