I am thinking about moving to Marked Tree, Arkansas. Can anyone tell me more about the area and residents?

It's about halfway between Memphis and Jonesboro, AR. Not much there, population about 2000, lies right on the future I-555.

there's nothing there right now, but the interstate may bring some industry. If you like a small town with very few chain stores/restaurants then maybe it is right for you. I would prefer Jonesboro's outskirts, simply to be nearer a large town.

Default marked tree

Dont expect marked tree to bloom any time in the near or distant future.ive lived here most of my life and im 46 now.the only thing we have got in that 46 years is a mcdonalds and a new grociery store.E.ritter owns this town and as long as they do we will have nothing.the only benifit here is that we are close to memphis and beal street.and jonesboro is a 20 minute drive, for a theatre and places to eat.If you do move here you might want to look for a place in the woods right outside of town.other than that lots of cotton and soebean fields to admire lol.Oh yea and lets not forget the rice.this is a farming area.

When "The big one" comes from the New Madrid fault, Marked Tree is forecasted for being the center.

There was a map in the paper here a year or two ago forecasting death/destruction for several hundred miles out.

It was originally named "Edwards, Ark" because it was settled by a railroad boss named Johnathan Edwards. And you are correct, it was renamed "Marked Tree" because of a huge marked oak tree (marked by Native Americans) when Edwards left and told the settlers who were staying to send a name to D.C. for a local post office in 1883.
