Be glad to help. We moved here a little over two years ago when we retired, but have owned real estate here about 10 years. It's a beautiful, quiet resort (Wyndham) community on Greers Ferry Lake, and because of the resort have a lot of amenities not usually found in small towns. (Marina, 2 golf courses, bowling, great fitness center, miniature golf and disc golf, swimming pools and hiking trails to name a few). Cost of living is good (84 percent of the national average), and the real estate market has been very active this year, although prices are low, so right now you get a lot of home for your money. They added two medical clinics this year and we have 4-5 good 'mom and pop' restaurants (the Little Red was rated very well in Trip Advisor).

We do have 2-3 internet access providers and have cable, Direct TV or Dish available for television. ART and Verizon both work for cell phones, although from time to time when you're driving in the mountains calls will be dropped.

Every property in DVD does pay a Community Club fee. For most improved properties it is $103/month...the breakdown is $46 for sewer (if you are on septic you don't pay that), $11 for trash and $46 that covers upkeep for the amenities and common areas as well as road maintenance. If you purchase a condo, you will also have your normal condo fee, which varies depending on which condo complex you live in.

There aren't really any apartment complexes here, but there are often privately owned condos and homes available for rent. Typically a 2-bedroom or small house will run you somewhere in the neighborhood of $550 and up, depending on size, location and condition.

We haven't really seen any flooding in DVD since we got here although in the spring the lake does fill up and can cause some problems in the surrounding areas.

The area does have tornados, and we have gone to the shelter a couple if Times, but Fairfield Bay has never had a tornado touch down within the town itself. I guess there is always the possibility of a first time, but it hasn't't been that big of an issue since we moved here.

Let me know if I can help with any other questions.
