Just yesterday, my husband and son went squirrel hunting, came back with only 5 but I cooked them for dinner last night.

Just a thought. You might want to get a hunting license first.

I don't have any problem with people hunting squirrel as long as they harvest the kill and don't go just mounting the head on their den wall...and while you're at it, you could make a coat or a dust mop out of the pelts.

Squirrel fur is also used for home-made fishing lures and is favored by a lot of fly fishermen.

Only mounted squirrel I've ever seen was an albino. Both Ark and Tenn have a short late-spring squirrel season, also referred to as Mulberry season. Fall seasons run from late August to end of January or February. Like most seasons, dates are designed to relieve hunting pressures when females are raising their young.

My father used to tell a story about the Great Depression - late 20's into the 30's. Don't know the cause, but there was a massive failure of the "mast" crop, ie acorns, hickory and walnuts, etc. Squirrels were attempting to swim the Tenn River in search of food. Several relatives visited a family members farm for a week - a lot of squirrels were shot in the corn fields attempting to eat the corn ears, all were canned for the winter.

Squirrels are rats with fancy tails.
You'll never see me with one on my table.
I will - gladly - shoot as many of them as I can to eliminate them from existence - but never to eat!

Why not?? I have had people asked me why I hunt quail and dove.
It's simple, they taste good.
Had squirrel once long ago, it was OK.

First off there is just about no meat on a squirrel, second they taste like crap. You have to Dr them up so much and at best you get it tastes like dark Chicken. Well if you have to work hard to get something to tease like Chicken just get some chicken. Its a stupid way people try to justify spending a lot of money per pound for hunting meat. Just get a chicken eat better and save money.
