for heavens sake, can't you guys lighten up??/ No one is saying they want it to be the state book. OK, a couple of officials suggested it, that is all there is to it. Did I ever, even once mention anything about not separating church and state?

I would have a really hard time living in the Bible belt. It amazes me that so many people there really believe that stuff.
It amazes me so many people who are non believers want to put those who believe down; have you even thought about it that way? I never question those who do not believe, that is their right and it does not make them good or bad, smart of dumb. The same for those of us who happen to believe in God. We come from all walks of life, from all over the world and it has nothing to do with our intelligence, how good we are or how bad. Let me also add, there are many people living here in AR. that are not believers or might believe but do not go to church. It really isn't that bad. At least many of us are not bigots, putting down people who think differently than others.

I think this is an excellent move.

After all, the Bible contains all sorts of things that a person needs to know. Like:

*How and when you can enslave other people, and how badly you can beat your slaves, and how slaves should behave, and that they should be returned to their owners if they run away.
[Leviticus 25:44-46, Exodus 21:2-6; 7-11; 20-21, Ephesians 6:5, Luke 12:47-48, Philemon 1:12]

*When it's acceptable to rape conquered women, and how much you have to pay a woman's father after you rape her.
[Judges 21:10-24, Numbers 31:7-18, Zechariah 14:1-2, Deuteronomy 22:28-29]

*That adulterers should be killed.
[Leviticus 20:10]

*That infidels and gays should be killed.
[Romans 1:24-32]

*That the wealthy will be condemned by God.
[James 5:1-5]

*That to marry a divorced woman is to commit adultery.
[Matthew 5:32]

And much, much more.

Right?

You know, it really does not matter what the "State Book" of Arkansas - or any other state may be. Making it the Bible, does not mean that Arkansans are going to run out and buy more Bibles - or read the ones they have more they already do.

I live in OH. Our "State Song" is "Hang On Sloopy". Does not have any affect on me.

That only applies to those "other religions" - you know, the ones that are "wrong" because the people in question happened to be born into a different religion.

Crud like this proposal is pathetic. The best part is how "patriotic" the bible-thumpers will no doubt pretend to be, even as they flat-out try to violate the First Amendment. Ah, well... for some, only the 2nd matters and the 1st just protects their pet religion. Sad.

Right?
Don't forget Deuteronomy, Chapter 13, which tells believers to straight-out murder entire towns - livestock included - if anyone in them worships a different god.

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage...Deuteronomy+13

How "Christian" - and how exactly like the quotes from other holy books that can lead to atrocities if taken literally.

The Bible has no business being the official book of anything save for the Church, and the Church has no business in government.

as has been mentioned, no one wants it to be the state book and there is no thing as a state book i do not think. btw: if you live in AR posting about this is one thing, if you don't what gives your the right to tell us what can and should or should not be done?

I'm not from Ohio, but I know that the greatest line in the song is, "Sloopy, I don't care what your Daddy do,".

Pop songwriting at its finest.

sounds like a song that would be fun to hear, maybe even to sing after a few martinis or beers.
