I have been looking at real estate in Baxter and Marion counties, and have found several properties that would be near ideal, if they had a cellar under or adjacent to the house.

I am to the point now that I am considering buying a property and having someone build a cellar next to the house before, or while I am in the process of, moving in.

I am pretty flexible about the size and shape.
And I can do the finishing work myself.

The digging is the biggest question, as the entire county is rocky and the soil is shallow.

But I am wondering how expensive is it to get that kind of stuff done.

Obviously it is going to vary from site to site, so I don't even know how this could be answered, but if anyone has any experience in this area, some advice would be appreciated.

You could find out a couple of local companies/people who do dozer and backhoe work. They should be able to give you an idea of the cost.
