Making a move to AR and wondering if anyone came across unexpected moving expenses. The big, oh wow ones.

My last move to the east coast from the Midwest.
1). I wanted to register/plates my leased vehicle and because I didn’t pay sales tax, my new state wanted me to pay full sales tax with only 9 months left on the lease...$4,800. Let’s say I found a work around.

2). Registering our boat I had to pay full sales tax on the value of the boat. No getting around this.

Tia - I did some searching and I couldn’t find anything that was out of the ordinary.

I moved from GA to NWA in 2014. I transferred two vehicles and only paid around $20 for the new plates (no sales tax). Same with a trailer I transferred. Overall I can’t think of any large unexpected expenses I had to pay. The biggest adjustment for me was getting used to Arkansas’s “personal property tax”. You are supposed to ‘declare’ all personal property, and then pay taxes on it. For example, if you have a 4-wheeler, you are supposed to declare it, thus pay taxes on it. We didn’t have to do this sort of thing in Georgia, so that took a little getting used to.

So I take it that hoarding disorder has been completely eradicated from the state of Arkansas then?

The personal property or ad valorem tax is what hits me in Alabama and I am hoping maybe it will be lower in Arkansas for my motorhome. In Alabama I have to pay this also for my car.
