I visit Hot Springs Village a couple of times per year. I really enjoy it there and contemplate buying there for its affordability and natural beauty. I then drive into the town of Hot Springs and cant seem to get beyond how Other than a super cute downtown, i find Hot Springs to be really trashy looking. Run down hotels and old dilapidated building dot the main roads. If you have allergies to trees, grass and weeds - think twice. A resident told me if you like city you have all the city You need between hot springs, little rock, and Benton. Id love to hear From someone who is transplanted to hot springs village or hot springs proper — is the city actually as trashy as it looks? Am i missing anything i need to see about the city ? Have you been happy with your move to arkansas? What are you not happy with?

I dont live there but have been a few times and even contemplated moving to Hot Springs. Yes it has its trashy areas like central ave from downtown out past the casino to the freeway. Then west of downtown and just south.

Anyway there are some very nice neighborhoods also. The National park and downtown are great. Lots of hiking including just park in front of the historic hot springs and walk up behind on the trails going up to the lookout tower. There are deer in there early also.

Lots of interesting history in Hot Springs also.

as for living there I kind of gave up on the idea. Like most places some good some not so good.

A friend and her husband moved there recently along with another couple who also lived in our community. My friend's house is gorgeous and on a golf course. I haven't visited yet but have seen pics. I will be going to visit them this fall, however.

I am looking forward to all replies to this thread topic.

The village is very nice, my concerns are primarily hot springs the city. Feels trashy and unsafe but i don't know if its actually unsafe or just feels that way on the surface. I think medical care is subpar based on the experience of a relative.

I moved to HSV about 6 years ago from the Seattle area and I love it. I live on the lake and have no regrets.

Yes, there are parts of Hot Springs that are trashy. But there are parts of most every town/city in the US that are trashy. I have never encountered any problems or felt unsafe when "going into town". Even at night, even in a sketchy area.

I luckily haven't needed lots of medical care but my neighbors that do have never mentioned getting subpar medical care. You do have to go to Little Rock for some specialists but its not far - I am in the middle of the village so about an hour to get to downtown LR. Never felt unsafe in LR either, and it has some trashy areas too.

Dislikes. It does get sticky hot in the summer. And the pollen in the spring is heavy (no worse than Seattle though). I do a lot of hiking and the ticks/chiggers are awful. There are a lot of snakes too if that bothers you (though tons of birds, foxes, rabbits, deer, bears).

I grew up in another part of Arkansas.
Hot Springs has the neat little downtown thing with the springs, but other than that I never really cared for it at all.
It is a sketchy place with a bit of a high crime rate.
I lived nearby in Little Rock for a few years and visited Hot Springs on occasion.
I don’t know. At that time in my life I was younger looking for an adventure so I left.
The experience living there wasn’t horrible, but the crime issue in that whole region made for an easy decision to move elsewhere.
Nevertheless, if for some reason I had to move back to Arkansas, it would be in the vicinity of Little Rock, maybe somewhere north of Hot Springs. It’s not a scenario I would actively seek out.

We have dogs, and apparently from talking to locals, ticks are a huge issue. My dogs like to play in their yard and stay indoors at night. Even with pet meds and exterminating the lawn, you still have to check them all over before coming back in. And if you work outside in your yard, you have to check yourself all over as well. No matter how beautiful or affordable a place may seem - that sounds line a huge hassle not to mention the diseases carries by tick bites.

May sound like a dumb reason for opting not to live somewhere but its a concern. If you know differently how to control them, Would love to hear it.

There are easy ways to control ticks. I don't live in HSV, but I do live in a rural area surrounding by woods on all sides. I treat my house and immediately yard area/bushes with permethrin SFR every 6 weeks from early spring to late summer. I have two dogs and a cat and haven't seen a tick on them in years. I got one tick on me this year but it wasn't at home and keep in mind I do all the yard work around my 40 acres. If you are going somewhere that you think it might be an issue, you can treat your clothes and skin but I rarely have to do that.

Texas7, We moved to HSV eight years ago from the Ft Worth area. I've never made a better decision in my life.

But, moving here right now will be tough. When we came here there were literally hundreds of homes for sale. As of yesterday there are 14. We have some friends and former neighbors in town, looking for a house so they can move back here. Houses here are selling sight unseen in a few days after listing, its crazy. Prices are way up too.

Hot Springs and Garland county as awhole have a serious methamphetamine drug problem. Lots of addicts as well as meth labs throughout the county and that area of Arkansas. If it tells you anything, the narcotics helpline uses an arial view picture of Hot Springs on their website.
