We are contemplating a move from S. Fl. to Arkansas-but where, Little Rock? My husband can move pretty much anywhere. The thing is we just moved into a house last week and then this came up.The thought of another move is not appealing. Also, I have a son who is going to be a junior in high school. That is a horrible time to move especially since we just moved from Indiana to S. Fl less than 2 years ago. What to do? Any thoughts-why Arkansas? I don't know anything about Arkansas.

Well, not being nosey......but why would you want to move if you just settled in?

Then the question would be, why would you think Arkansas?

Arkansas is a lot of different things to a lot of people, but most folks are loking for something specific when they come here, wether it be the NWA job market, college, retirement, or the recreational opportunities.

If you don't know anything about Arkansas, cruise this forum, it pretty much all gets said on a regular rotational basis. Folks can answer most any questions you have, here, but I don't think there's going to be much recruiting to get more people to move in. That's a decision only you can make.

I was sorta thinking the same thing. I just didn't ask it. you are right about AR being different things to different people and all of us looking for something when we decide to re-locate but I think this the case whether you are moving to AK, TX, Wa or anywhere for that matter.

According to US News, out of 50, Arkansas ranks #45. Ranks #42 in education, so your son wouldn't be required to work very hard in school if that's a positive to you.

This is a ten year old thread, so said son has most probably finished his schooling long ago.

Fortunately, all the positive comments and descriptions of Arkansas's spectacular scenery and other outdoor attractions still apply.

I doubt her son's education would be an issue at this stage of the game: the post is over 10 years old. It always amazes me when someone, for what ever reason digs up these long gone posts. BTW regardless of AR ratings they have some outstanding schools throughout the state. Heck one here in NWA was just chosen as a Blue Ribbon school. that is the highest rating a school can receive.

It's nearly always a new member.

What are the requirements to become a Blue Ribbon school? Is the school being compared to other schools in the region, state, or nation?

Many years ago, I took first place in the baking competition at the county fair. While that was great fun--and I won $100!--I realized that I was the big fish for a day in a small pond. It wasn't the state fair or the Pillsbury Bake-Off.
