I'm hearing that there is hope for a new hospital in sharp county, has anyone else heard anything? We sure do need one, I've heard that some people do not want to move here because of the old hospital closing......

I do hope it becomes a reality....

Yes, I have read and heard a number of things on that.

There has been a comittee formed to study the possibility, that is as far as it has gone.

Reality is, the market is not here for them.

You cannot support a hospital on Cherokee Village and the handful of people in the area that would utilize it when Fulton, Baxter Regional, and WRMC have the facilities that they have.

The WRMC clinic on the east side of CV isn't knocking them dead, and if you note, the Baxter Regional clinic farther south down the 4 lane has been closed for some time.

167 & 62/412 carries a lot of traffic, but there are several former medical buildings that have been sitting empty for quite some time.

The build-out and support of any facilities would be huge, and there's only so much busines available in the shadow of other facilities. If you've been to Baxter Regional in Mountain Home, you know there are a plethora of specialists available virtually within walking distance.

What's that close for the CV hospital to start back up?

A chinese buffet and the Copper Feather.

Not bad if you want some teriyaki chicken or a beer, but not much support.

Yes, people are leaving the area because of that fact.

Also, realize that a lot of people left CV after the ice storm because their power was out for awhile.

I guess that only happens in CV...............

Realistically, leaving CV because no hospital is going in is much like "Well, if I can't change it, then I'm taking my ball and leaving", which is what is discussed here reference a lot of other issues, like shopping and eateries, or the lack of them.

Hospitals aren't non-profit orgs. The ambulance service is hurting because of the transports they do, many unnecessary, for people that have no insurance and find it too much of a hassle to go sign up for medicaid.

A business can't be run without income.

There are a number of people that don't want a hospital because they don't want the tax increase.

*THEN*....there are even, at least a handful as far as I have talked to, that firmly state, "If we don't need to vote on the wet/dry issue, then we don't need a hospital either".

Stupid, I agree, but there's a lot of people with chips on their shoulders and their own agenda over in your neighborhood, ya know?

"In Duluth, we did it *this* way".

Once you go any direction out of CV, you find people that are locked into one of the other hospitals.

If I was a betting man <well....heck, Rog..you *are*>, my money is saying that if having a hospital outside your front door is a priority for anyone there, might want to check the phone book under "Realtors".

however... a 24 hour full service emergency room out on the 4 lane is a practical short term solution that realistically can be done. That shouldn't even be debatable. It is needed and it is needed now.

I have to cast my vote with CVer72529. The ER is doable. I also think the hospital itself is doable. If you read the actual feasibility report it is clear that the core demographics aren't the different from other similarly sized areas in AR that do have hospitals. As for profit, the study makes clear that both the local ambulance service and the vast majority of hospitals in AR are non-profits. I agree with RogMar that there is problem getting some folks signed up for benefits for which they are eligible. Soon the healthcare bill will take care of that problem if it doesn't get overturned by rich interest groups who like to persuade others who are poor or struggling to vote against their own interests by bizarre illogic. But that's another story. If you read the study, you soon see there's not a whole lot that distinguishes the CV area from other challenged parts of the State with real hospitals.

Don't get me started on the "health care bill".

I think I'm personally funding it.
