Yeah, look at Sam Walton. Overalls, old shoes, old truck, ect.

Zactly, Allen.

As Aporkalypse pointed out, yes, there are locals that have chosen to have grand digs. As far as I see it, most earned it, and I don't criticize anyone's lifestyle choices.

When one strives to be successful, achieves it and an elevated income that goes with it, a public display of that economic level is not uncalled for.

Allen's right, though. I live in cow country and I know the scale these folks operate on. There are a few notable houses around here, but for everyone that would turn your head as you go by, there's 15 that wouldn't.

It's a little different when you live in the "neighborhood", eat at their homes, go to church with them, and rag chew at the feed store or fillin' station.

Years ago, I was sitting at a feed store, and the talk was of a Riverboat Casino that was being built not too far away.

One guy said, "If they really want to gamble, they oughtta try farming", and everybody laughed real loud. Knee slappin'.

How many people do you know that lay a quarter million on the table and still got time to stop what they're doing to invite you to dinner?

Yep, I grew up on a poor little old Arkansas Farm. Well, during harvest time I learned a lot. During dinner, outside of course, I had a set of millionaire friends sitting right among the farm-hand friends. It was a good enlightening experience to listen to the chatter among them. Best of all, I realized they each had respect for the other, and they really did not want anything except respect and good conversation with one another. And they shared a love of my Mom's good food. The "well-to-do" friends seemed to remember where they came from and gave help and friendship to the ones around them who were good generous, hard-working people. They just wanted a little bit of the heaven they remembered while they were getting to the top. Those "rich" people never looked down on the people there.

Some of the snobs out there really don't have a clue as to what "good money" is.

There is a magazine I see often here in the various doctors offices. I don't know the name of it, but all they do is tell us who had a party for what fund raiser, etc..I thought that type of media went out in the 70s or some such thing. This is the first place we have lived in years that actually has a society page complete with who had who to dinner last week..All newpapers have a little of this, but not like we have in NWA>
