Following is just an example, but when did some shopping yesterday in grocery in a different town than normal, [no, the town itself really isn't that different, but it,,, oh, nevermind
] noticed that even tho' its located ~1.5 hours away from where usually shop, the selection was very different, in both stores. Funny in that the WM and Meijer in Ft Wayne, IN, the Meijer just about always has the better fresher produce, at lower/comparable prices, but when went to Goshen/Elkhart they were reversed. However, even w/ that said it is cool to be able to go into a Meijer store, for example here, and be able to buy food products from Germany, Britain, Poland, Italy, etc., all in an entire 'world foods' aisle. And yes, Farmers Markets, when in season are definitely the way to go.

I have not been able to find a decent egg since I moved here which is funny as there are hen houses everywhere. In the stores the eggs are not good. I used to raise chickens so know a good egg when I see or eat one.

Go to the hen houses to buy them. There are at least two places near me that sell fresh eggs.

DC are there any in the Benton county area? We used to get eggs in NM from a warehouse..They were shipped in but were cheap and almost as fresh as getting them from the hen herself...

Yes, on the highway that runs between Eastern Bella Vista and Pea Ridge there is a farm down a dirt road that sells fresh eggs. They have a sign up on the highway. There used to be a farm on the highway to Gentry that also sold fresh eggs. If you go over the Missouri line along the old highway to Springfield, there are several Mennonite farms that sell eggs as well as other items (whole nutmegs, celery powder, homemade soap, cookie cutters, etc)

damn your good. I was trying to find a mennonite store or farm last year. We used to have one in NM. They sold cheeses, bulk flour, spices, etc.. Thanks so much. I will find them....

There is an Amish community north of Kansas City. I know this is out of the way, but I enjoy shopping in Kansas City sometimes, and visiting the museum or checking out the Christmas lights. The Amish community there sells spices and various crafts at what I think are very low prices.

] noticed that even tho' its located ~1.5 hours away from where usually shop, the selection was very different, in both stores. Funny in that the WM and Meijer in Ft Wayne, IN, the Meijer just about always has the better fresher produce, at lower/comparable prices, but when went to Goshen/Elkhart they were reversed. However, even w/ that said it is cool to be able to go into a Meijer store, for example here, and be able to buy food products from Germany, Britain, Poland, Italy, etc., all in an entire 'world foods' aisle. And yes, Farmers Markets, when in season are definitely the way to go.
