Just an open thread to discuss politics in AR.

Did anyone read about the oversight that doesn't allow single parents to be exempt from state income tax (within certain income brackets) but married people with kids (within certain income brackets) are exempt from state income tax?

I am surprised more people are not upset about this.
According to the AR Dem. Gazette it affects about 49,000 tax payers.

With all this talk of those failed tea parties protesting the taxes of the federal government, why not protest to get the income tax abolished in AR...or at least fair for all?

Wow. Great way to get more people married at 19 (and divorced by 21).

Maybe because we shouldn't be encouraging single parent-dom. There may be quite a some responsable single parents, but there are far more who aren't.

Instead of bashing people (those who attended the tea parties) who believe in something, and are trying to stand up for it, why don't you do something about it besides complain on a forum.

I doubt anyone would ever successfully get income tax abolishment on a ballot, and even if they did, I doubt it would pass. Folks in Arkansas are set in their ways ... as you've probably already noticed. If one group popped up for income tax abolishment, 5 more groups would pop up spouting all the different ways abolishing income tax would hurt the citizens of Arkansas.

Right off the bat, the first argument would be "property taxes would rise". And you don't want to get an Arkansan started about property taxes...

He didn't bash anyone. A little overdramatic, aren't you?

Well I'm sure there are some same-sex parents out there raising kids and if they were allowed to legally marry.....that would cut down on the amount of people classified as single parents when in fact they aren't single.

I see nothing wrong with single parents. A lot of the negatives you here about kids raised by single parents are a result of economics a lot of times.

New topic: light rail in AR.
Would you like to see a dedicated tax for light rail?

The AR Democrat Gazette had an article Wednesday about the need for Little Rock/Arkansas to get on the "train" (pardon the pun) when it comes to high speed rail.
I know this was brought up before.
