Is the ground in the Hot Springs area soil or red clay? What about the lake areas? We came from the North where we had dirt, and know that where we are in SC is red clay. We love to garden and it's a bite here unless it's in containers & we also have a golden retreiver that loves to swim and comes out dyed when we take him.
Thanks!

We have soil in my backyard here! Pretty rocky soil in some areas around HS, but I haven't seen much clay.

This reply may be too late to help, but I'll put in my two-bits worth anyway. The area around Hot Springs has all types of soil which varies from rocky up on the mountain slopes, to sandy clay near the bottoms, and sandy loam along the streams. So, depends entirely on where you live. I just returned from an archeology job on the Ouachita National Forest west of Hot Springs and the soil was very sandy. We were surprised to find that.
