A couple years ago there was a news article about large numbers of Mennonites moving in from Missouri. The Mizzou DMV was forcing them to have pictures on their drivers licenses--something that is against their beliefs. Don’t know how that situation ever ended up though.

The Mennonite are a very nice people, and peaceful. I hope to meet some when I move to Iowa. I love their simple, honest life and ways. I have met a couple sisters. They were very kind to me and gave me alot of their literature to read. They aren't pushy, and they believe in the Bible and that Jesus is our Lord and Saviour. I enjoy reading "Keepers At Home," for the ladies. I share a great many of their beliefs, though I am not a Mennonite. I'm very glad to have met the ones that I did... They are a precious people. S.B.

I didn't know my birth-state had much in the way of Mennonites. Although the following map indicates a few counties, mostly in the Northern or Western parts of the state, did going back to 2000.

Here's a list of cities in Arkansas with Mennonite churches.

Hi I recently saw your curiosity about Mennonites in Arkansas! If you are familiar at all with the pope and yell county area of the state there is a Mennonite Community in Chichilah going towards Danville. They have a small store there. I was not able to find a phone number I am not even sure they have one!

In all my years in the Natural State I never saw a Mennonite, but here in western Colorado there is a large population. Very good folks, hard working and honest.

I saw a Mennonite man and his two children in the Oark General Store one time. I know they were Mennonite and not Amish because he was driving a truck.

She Bea said: I share a great many of their beliefs, though I am not a Mennonite.

Same here....I believe in the Bible also and in a more simple way of life....the only thing I can't go along with them on is (for the women) the dresses, head coverings, and never cutting their hair. I do like their emphasis on the women being "keepers at home", and believe that a lot of the problems we have with our children and society today would be alleviated if more people subscribed to that belief.

You must mean Chickalah. I've been through there....beautiful countryside.

Jasminjoy said: I was not able to find a phone number I am not even sure they have one!

Mennonites use electricity and phones and drive cars....that's the Amish who don't. Although there could be some "old order" Mennonite sects around, I suppose, who are stricter on that sort of thing. I don't know everything about them, that's for sure.

I've always wanted to visit an Amish community, maybe stay in one of the homes for a couple of days. I find their ability to get along without being connected to the power grid fascinating....and their knowledge might come in handy for the rest of us someday, who have completely forgotten how to do that!
