If Arkansas schools are so great then why is it that my neice who went to UALR, got two BA's, and has a GPA 3.8. Now when looking for a job no body takes her degrees seriously because of the school she comes from. She is also very charismatic. She can't even get a decent job. 50,000 dollars for an education and she can make 10 dollars an hour?

I just watched a documentary on Dave Thomas. Why can he create a fast food empire called Wendy's without ever attending high school?

Why did Bill Clinton become President? Why does Jerry Jones own the Cowboys? Why is the Pope from West Memphis?

Your comments say more about your niece than UALR.

Is she looking for a job in Arkansas? Having a bachelors in business administration is no guarantee for a job...even if you go to harvard. I don't know what her majors were in but a general business degree in Arkansas won't get you that far because there are not a lot of corporations here. Your chances of landing a job go up exponentially if the field you want to go into requires a license and you have one.

She is trying to get a job out of state. Usually someone with 2 BA's and a GPA of 3.8 can get a good job. Especially if they have the kind of outgoing, charismatic personality and attitude that she has. The problem is that people out of the state do not take degrees coming from Arkansas seriously. That does say something about the states educational reputation yes.

Once I was sipping on a Coke when someone showed me UA Fort Smith diploma. Man Alive, I spewed Coca Cola out my nose laughing at this fool.

What is the deal with Grand Island, Nebraska? Grand Island is neither grand, nor an island, discuss amongst yourselves.

Maybe she is looking in the wrong places, maybe there is a hell of lot more to the story than you know, maybe she doesn't interview as well as you think, maybe a lot of things. Are you saying, comapanines are telling her she isn't qualified because she got her degrees from a college in AR? Give me a break. Have you heard there is a horrible recession? Of course you haven't. You would rather blame your neices problems on her choice of univesities. Our granddaughter, with a degree and outstanding gpa had a similar problem. It had nothing to do with her degree from U of A. It had to do with the times. She eventually got a job (better than your neices I would add) and now, 2 years later is starting a new job, making a heck of a lot more than $10.00 an hour. By the way, the job is here in AR. I have heard of a lot of rationalizing but yourse is almost over the top...

Nita

You have no idea that is why she is not able to get a decent job. Of course if she is shoting for a job on Wall Street, in this economy she might be going against people with degrees from top schools and of course she is having problems. Do you have any idea how many applications are being submitted for every entre level job right now in most states? Do you have any idea how many college graduates can't get jobs as restaurant serveers.? Again, those of us in the REAL world, who have been through this before understand. It is time your neice realize it is more than where she went to school. Maybe she needs to settle for a job in Ar until she proves herself.

Hind sight is fantastic, but many kids getting out of school now days go the intership route the last year in school or during the summer braak. That helps with the job situation after graduation.

You mention her education cost $50,000. As much as that seems like a lot, it really isn't much compared to many schools. That is why both my granddaughters were so thrilled to get some scholarships.

Well Nita that is wonderful. Good for your Granddaughter. I am not trying to be rude to you by asking this but, have you ever lived out of the state of Arkansas? I have lived in a few places. Cultures are a little different where ever you go depending how far you go here in the U.S. So since I have been to a few places I can make a few comparisons from state to state. Also I am not the only one who has had a family member with problems like this.
