Thanks for the "Roses" Joyce. Without revealing my real name, I'm the one who set the three monuments in Wood Cemetery last week .

Back to "my" railroad of which I have posted many photos in the past. There have been posting and photos about the rails being taken up and hauled off on 18-wheelers with long flatbed trailers. I wondered how the trucks got across the bridges and trestles because some had rotted out ties. We found out on our last trip into east Pike County. This is the north bridge of the twin bridges north of Shawmut, and as you can see, they replaced the rotted out ties and placed timbers inside the timbers that were already there and this is what the trucks drove on. It would have been kinda like walking a foot log where one bad step would lead to a long fall. You can't see it in this photo but where the bridge/trestle curved, the outside wheels of the duels were actually running very close to the edge. My buddy, who was driving our truck, looked at it trying to decide if we should cross, then said "no way", so we backed out and went out another way.

This man really got around, and if you think about the mode of travel at that time . Here is his itinerary: Born in KY 1833, Married in TN 1853 then back to KY, MO 1855, joined Confederate Cavalry in MO 1862, released in LA 1865, Married in TX 1877, to AR after 1887, died in AR 1910 about two miles from burial site. And in his spare time he fathered about a dozen kids.

This grave is in the Wood Cemetery in Pike County.

Hey, thanks for sharing this Link. I did not know about it but it is now on my archeology Favorites list. I'll dig into the Site and see if I can add some of my ghost town photos.

Back again on "my" railroad in east Pike County. We drove a different leg this trip. There was a herd of deer under this bridge but they spooked before I could get a photo.
