Hot Springs, Garland County - Although I have not confirmed it, I have been told this was staff quarters for the Army Navy Hospital personnel. There are several similar buildings on the hospital property. This one is just west of the power house shown above. I was also told that the doctors and army brass lived in traditional homes on down Reserve Street, east.

Hot Springs Garland County - Back to the old Army Navy Hospital neighborhood. This is one of the three fountains in Hot Springs, that I know of, that is provided for the public to fill their water jugs with Hot Springs water. One is on west down Reserve Street at the foot of the hill in front of the ANH and the other is in a nearby parking lot by the Federal Building. Scroll back up to Post #849, the view of the Libby Memorial, and you can see this fountain in front of that building.

Let's take a break from Hot Springs and come back later. I still have some great photos of structures on some of the side streets.

Clark County - This rock formation is on the railroad that I have posted so many photos of, that goes through the ghost town of Graysonia which has also been posted here. It is a classic example of the folded sandstone that was caused by the uplift that formed the Ouachita Mountains, and these smaller ridges in the area of the cinnabar mines many miles south. It shows how extensive the uplift was. These ridges and the ridges of the Ouachita's all run east-west.

latunafish, these are just for you These rocks are 10/15 miles east of the ones above which shows the east-west tilt from the uplift. The mountain in these photos once was capped with these sandstone rocks in a horizontal plane, and still is in a few places such as this. But the mountain was made up of sandy clay and over the many, many years eroded away and the edges of the cap collapsed as you can see here, and in most places tumbled down the mountain side. That is fascinating country back in there. This was also in Clark County.

Here's one a lot of folks don't know about, Hickory Nut Mountain. At the top is a campground and a scenic overlook with spectacular views from high above Lake Ouachita.

You know "Dragover"? FYI, the past two summers we have had a two week archeology dig at Dragover. When you go in, pass the camping area, go to the road to the left that goes down to the river, and it was in the pine plantation to the right of that road. Although the lab has not completed it's analysis, we found stuff from 1930s farming back a thousand years or more.
