I was there a couple of years ago. I LOVED Beirut! Lebanon is amazing, people are great, so much to do and see. My special place there though is Broumana, which is a suburb of Beirut. It has a very European feel in some ways. Hard to describe. But the warmth of the Lebanese people is awesome. It is a place I could *very* easily live. If you are thinking of visiting, all I can say is "GO!".
I am Lebanese and i wouldn't recommend going there now. The country is on the verge of war, on two fronts, Israel on one side and civil war on another. It is a very beautiful city with the best food, night life and cafes/bars. You can go skiing in the morning and swimming in the afternoon in the same day(me and a couple friends tried that theory once unsuccessfully, we got sick for a week)
Its a shame what the politicians are doing to this country. It really is the Paris of the Middle East.
Beautiful country, beautiful people ( inside and out - ) , beautiful food. Lebanon is a wonderful place. I love Beirut and it deserves better than the horrors which have been wreaked upon it in the last decades.
I hope it does get to recover properly at some point with long term peace prospects and stability because it is such a dear, dear place. Lebanese people are some of the most resilient, optimistic people I have ever met , somehow always looking to the best even in times of great difficulties and trauma.
We could certainly take a leaf out of their book. Some of the warmest, most gregarious and hospitable people on the planet with an iron clad sense of humour and dignity.

That seems to be it's fate most of the time, unfortunately. I've thought of visiting Beirut from time to time, and it's always like that.
I've heard there are 15 million Lebanese abroad, and only 4 million in Lebanan. Heard in the summers, many go back for a visit?
Curious what that's like. I guess all the nightlife would really be hopping than. Might be interesting in summer.
Huge bump, but OP did you end up going to Beirut? Beautiful city, beautiful people, amazing food, amazing weather, wonderful scenery anywhere you go in the country, extremely welcoming and warm people... I've been once and I really would love to go back.
