Why? It's simply a chain reaction from movement of the tectonic plates.

And hey, if the worst happens and a gaping hole suddenly appears in the mantle of the planet, it's not like we can all get on a bus and head to Mars.

The quake caused some minor damage in Chiang Rai,Thailand. One woman was killed at Mae Sai, Thailand, when a wall fell on her. Reports I've gotten from Chiang Mai, Thailand (located south of Chiang Rai) is that the quake was felt, but no reports of any injuries or damage.

We've been concerned because we have relatives and friends who live in Chiang Mai. Thankfully, everyone is okay.
