YANGON, Myanmar – A powerful earthquake that toppled homes in northeastern Myanmar has killed more than 70 people, and there were fears Friday the toll would mount as conditions in more remote areas became known.

Why? It's simply a chain reaction from movement of the tectonic plates.

The quake caused some minor damage in Chiang Rai,Thailand. One woman was killed at Mae Sai, Thailand, when a wall fell on her. Reports I've gotten from Chiang Mai, Thailand (located south of Chiang Rai) is that the quake was felt, but no reports of any injuries or damage.

We've been concerned because we have relatives and friends who live in Chiang Mai. Thankfully, everyone is okay.
