Things are getting worse in China with the Evergrande default.

"China's leadership is attempting to play it cool, but the circumstances surrounding Evergrande's downward spiral raises serious questions about [Chinese President] Xi Jinping's stewardship over China's rapidly cooling economy"

It will be worse than that for the Chinese executives of Evergrande, who will likely face "disappearance" at the hands of the PRC (if not already). Next stop for them is a windowless room with a drain in the middle and a pistol pointed at the back of their heads.

Over a billion people, suddenly desperate for tree branches? That doesn't sound like a rosy future for the trees...

And what about the people who don't live in areas with trees? People in parts of Western China, that are prarie/grasslands? Or semi-desert? What will happen to all the trees newly-planted around Inner Mongolia, for a national project to re-green the spreading desert?

You're kidding, right?
You think a large supply of natural gas would be of assistance to people whose homes are heated with coal?

Australia is one of the leading exporters of LNG. Given the way Australian coal purchases were handled, I would not think the Chinese would want to come, hat in hand, begging to be allowed to buy more LNG.

At 1:35, there's an ear of corn clearly visible in the fire.

Since there were evidently posted to social media, there's always the chance that people were being hyperbolic for the sake of views and don't actually have any subversive/whistleblowing intention.

Around 2015, there was a horrifying video of a woman on an escalator with her son, who got sucked into the machinery after the floor panel at the top popped open due to lazy/inept technicians... She managed to fling her son to safety but was torn apart inside the escalator. On social media, lots of people shared videos of themselves figuring out creative ways of jumping over or otherwise avoiding the landings of escalators. It wasn't because people were actually seriously terrified, it was really more of a meme.

This said... It wouldn't necessarily surprise me if people are doing this in rural areas, because, well, the math shakes out. There are lots of things that are cheaper to burn than coal now. If they don't have the electrical load to be able to handle multiple heating elements at once, which can be a legitimate issue out in the countryside.

Those foreign currency reserves do a lot to underpin the value of the yuan and gives the gov't leverage over other nations' economies and policy. In the last few days, they bought more reserves to keep the yuan from gaining against foreign currencies, because the higher the yuan goes, the less attractive China is for trade, because the cost of doing business surges. If the rate went up to, say, $1 USD to $3 CNY, then that means that a factory worker making 48k CNY per year is making $16,000 USD per year, which is less than half the average US factory worker salary, and more than 3x the average worker salary in Mexico. So, no, they aren't going to use that to buy LPG.

Also, China's domestic production isn't high enough; it could buy from Russia, but would also have to produce the infrastructure for the switch in a meaningful scale which would require them to artificially boost industries to get it done, something that has gotten them into this economic mess. Anyways, China is trying to get away from depending on foreign resources where possible, and that wouldn't help.
