I am amazed at the amount of civility and hard work the Japanese people have had since the earthquake. I doubt even in a place like America we would be able to rebuild in such time.

So why is Haiti still in chaos and strife almost 2 years after their disaster? Why were people in New Orleans (a much lesser disaster IMHO) so savage after Katrina?

Believe it or not, this is actually the norm in Japan. If you drop your wallet in, let's say Tokyo, there's a high possibility of it being returned. Japanese attitude towards ethical issues is something I find miraculous and wonderful, and their degree of restraint against breaking it is quite amazing.

I quote this from another website:
Quote:
A friend of mine just came back from Osaka, and he said that outside the train station there was literally a pile of unlocked bicycles as tall as a person, all unlocked.

The attitude he said they had was, "Why would you steal another person's bike? Someone would just steal yours, then."
And quite frankly, that's true in how they feel.
