Singapore is probably the best city that represents all of Asia. I mean it's got East Asian, South Asian, Austronesian and even some Middle Eastern culture. Kuala Lumpur too.
I'm undecided. I wanna go with Tokyo, Hong Kong & Bangkok. But I think Tokyo has the best representation of a premier Asian destination. Not really. I always tell my foreign friends to go spend more time in the Kansai region instead.
Mine is Osaka. It has a fantastic cuisine (way better than Tokyo) and lots of cheap shopping areas. Osaka also is not as fast paced and stressful as Tokyo. It has a great location. Close to Kyoto & Nara. Two beautiful Japanese cities.
Osaka has a better location and the people are more fun. Food is even--there are things Osaka definitely does better (okonomiyaki, takoyaki) and things Tokyo does better (sushi, ramen). Tokyo has a bit more to do, imo, but it comes down to preference.
Oh, you left out Kobe, which is also in the Kansai area (Himeji, too). Tokyo has Kamakura and Yokohama nearby.

I love all the covered shopping arcades. Great place to go when raining but still want to feel like you are outdoors.
What criteria are we looking at? Tokyo is one of the largest cities in the world and a lot going on, but people living there tend to be a bit stressed and serious. As mentioned before, Osaka people tend to be more friendly, or at least open about their feelings, humorous, helpful, but the city itself is nowhere near as nice looking as Tokyo, though the surrounding regions are quite historic, and not at all the center of action in Japan as everything is centered in Tokyo. Seoul I think isn't too bad, it's just lacking in some iconic architecture and the winter weather is quite difficult to handle. It's the most visited city in Asia right now. Not sure about the rest unfortunately.

Hong Kong alone gets more tourists every year than South Korea and Japan combined.
Seoul is not the most visited Asian city that's for sure...
Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Singapore, Dubai and Istanbul have more tourists than Seoul.

Disagree. For diversity, for a start, Singapore has got cities like Tokyo, Hong Kong, Bangkok etc easily beat.
