I decided to incorporate more mandarin tv shows and movie to improve my Mandarin skills and to keep up with the culture. I usually watch Hong Kong movies if at all. Currently watching the late 2011 Taiwanese RomCom TV Series "Ex-boyfriend" (前男友), which is pretty good.

What about you?

I just watched the movie, Tokyo Drift. It was pretty good, was easy to follow in some parts for someone learning the language.

From local Korean cable "The Great Seer and "Damo". Both are historical drama with lots of action and martial arts. "Damo" sttop stars Ha Ji-Won and is the story of female police officers in the 17th century. My friend told me that netflixs also has this film as a rental.

Japanese film has fallen off in the past few years but I just saw the film "Ichi" with Ayase Haruka. This is the continuation of the series "Zatoichi, the Blind Swordsman" that became popular world wide in the 1970's. This time it's Zatoichi's blind daughter. Her acting as a blind person rivals that of the master who originaly played the lead of Zatoichi, Katsu Shintaro. This is also a Netflix rental. To find the best Japanese, Chinese and Korean films you need to know a word from the title and use the site's search engine. They hide the best ones and push the sex ones like "Bikini Ninja".

I just saw Life of Pi by Ang Lee. He's such a good director.
Also Stoker starring Nicole Kidman was good by the Korean director that did Old Boy.

I thought that was an American movie, part of the Fast and Furious franchise. Or is this a different movie?

I've been watching a rebroadcast of the 2007 Philippine drama "Impostora" on my local GMA station, the lastest Japanese taiga drama "Yae no Sakura (八重の桜)" on my local NHK station, and the Korean drama "Horse Doctor (마의)" on Hulu.

I hope I did not get the title wrong. It is not part of the Fast and Furious.

This is about a guy who owes money to a "bill collector". The guy who owes the money, can not afford to pay it back. The collector is getting out of the business and decides a way for the guy to pay the money back is for him to accompany him on a walk across Tokyo.

It was a really fun movie.

Edit: Just checked Netflix, it is called Adrift in Tokyo haha.

I'm watching "Horse Doctor" also but on our local MBC channel. I'd like to get Hulu. Also on my local NHK is a remake of the eternal ninja "Sarutobi Sasuke".

Films I have watched recently are "The Harp of Burma" and by the same director Ichikawa Kon, "Sasameyuki" the 1981 version and "Yokiro" ("Geisha" is the English title). This is supposedly the true story that was turned into a not as good production called "Memoris of a Geisha".
