She is really thinking ahead here about creating a burgeoning middle class...good for her. Also, her plan to encourage entrepreneurship is certainly interesting and will go a long way. I guess she is trying to take her country to the next level....getting to the top is hard enough, but staying there is even tougher.

“The past economic model designed to catch up with advanced economies drove Korea’s rapid growth, but it has lost steam,” Park said.

I worked for a year at Samsung in Seoul, it is amazing what S. Korea has done in a relatively short span of time. That is a fast paced technological country. They run in the office and they work the longest workweek in the industrialized world. The other thing is that Koreans are stylish and their music & video industries permeate Asia and have spread to the rest of the world to some degree.

Caution that this is a rigid society where conformity seems to dominate everything they do. The idea of creative independence would be a new one in Korea. I don't sell the Koreans short given their determination and work ethic but they do much better copying than creating. It will be interesting to see if that changes over time.
