Is this going to be like the one that formed to do nothing more than catch illegal fisherman. If so what a waste of time. What is the purpose of all these alliances. The aforementioned nations have always been friendly with each other. Call me when a true wildcard such as Vietnam joins.

Vietnam wouldn’t really be a wild card these days. They’ve grown wary of China and have been strengthening ties with the Quad, despite not being an official member.

So, a country that lost around 2 million people fighting a war to repel U.S. forces, suddenly joining an alliance with the U.S. wouldn't be a wildcard. Boy if Ho Chi Minh were alive today. The Vietnamese leaders aren't stupid. While they may mistrust China, they probably mistrust the U.S. just as much. After all, they have same style of government as China. Who's to say they will not be next with allegations of human right abuses, or some other loaded charge meant to turn a nation into bad guys. All the reason to play both sides never getting too close to either. The U.S. would make a great counter to China and China a great counter to the U.S. Outside of India no other country has as much leverage in the current U.S. China tensions. Joining an alliance with the U.S. would greatly reduce that leverage.

Welcome to the 21st century. Alliances can easily change depending on circumstances. As it stands, Vietnam has more issues with China than the US, so they are more likely to align with them. That’s the gist of geopolitics.

I understand geopolitics. There is no such thing as permanent allies or enemies only interest. I'm just not sold on Vietnam being staunchly in the U.S. camp. People are jumping to this conclusion prematurely and will be greatly disappointed. Look at the fuss with India. People are mad because they can’t get them to go along with Russian sanctions.
Vietnam would be even more of a headache. It has one of those "incompatible governments" with Western nations as they say. If this is to be ignored, then it proves my point made in other threads. Western leaders care nothing about how free your society is or how demographic their government structure. They only care if you will be subservient in geopolitics and further their interest. Nothing wrong with that, it is how international politics work; however, I wish they would stop trying to hide it behind a morality B.S. cover.
Just saying at this stage there is absolutely no need for Vietnam to join the U.S. camp. I don't think the game of peddling economics and fear will work on a nation such as Vietnam. Better for them to just play all sides.

The Sino-Vietnam war was triggered by China defending Cambodia. It was complicated then. Read up the US-backed assassination of Vietnam's first president, and coup detat of Indonesia's first president that killed 3 million people mostly innocent civilians ... they were all around the same Era.
And Vietnam's high-speed rail ... in 2010 2017 ... 2022 still waiting. Whereas that of Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, up to Singapore all completed.
