I watched a show, Globe Trekker and they went to Uzbekistan. It was interesting and its cities seemed lively and not poor, which was my conception of Uzbekistan. Obviously it only showed a little bit, but what is Uzbekistan really like? What is its tourism like? I don't know very much about this country, never hear about it on the news or anything.

This would be great to know. I find Central Asia and the Caucasus to both be fascinating.

Samarkland is the biggest tourist draw, and Tashkent is the capital.

Tough question to really answer, as any book would give all the general/generic info on Uzbekistan.

I've long wanted to go visit Tashkent as well as Bishkek and Almaty, also in the Stans countries. Hopefully one day!

Tashkent have very strong Russian influence, because they used to be one country and Tashkent were Russian built but Samarkand is a different story, very fascinating central Asian/Middle Eastern architecture.

I actually met a Uzbek girl in London at Kensington palace, first person from there I've met, and she seemed cool. Like she was very direct and some might say a bit bossy, but it was in a way that indicated a sort of congenial familiarity, I actually find that sort of refreshing.

Haha, if you put it that way lol...I have no idea how open they are to being 'plowed', but just watch out if they have a strict Muslim family...
