Tashkent have very strong Russian influence, because they used to be one country and Tashkent were Russian built but Samarkand is a different story, very fascinating central Asian/Middle Eastern architecture.
I actually met a Uzbek girl in London at Kensington palace, first person from there I've met, and she seemed cool. Like she was very direct and some might say a bit bossy, but it was in a way that indicated a sort of congenial familiarity, I actually find that sort of refreshing.
