Honestly, why should they? It is a pretty minor state, I think you underestimate the level of knowledge people in the world have about US states. They for sure know the big ones, but I doubt they could even put them on the map besides California, Texas, and Alaska. Most people in Canada even probably could not.
Most Japanese have never heard of most US cities or states, I always found it funny when I first moved here during university, the American students always introduced their state or city to everyone instead of saying country, and were always shocked when Japanese and Europeans, Aussies, etc., alike did not know where Wisconsin or Nashville were and anybody not Anglophone had simply never heard of any place beyond the top ~10-15.
