I have been talking to a woman, and our lives are intersecting in such a way that it looks like I could meet her in Malaysia or Vietnam in the next few weeks. I know Malaysia is a predominately Muslim country, and I was wondering if things like holding hands or kissing in public would be against the law like they are in Dubai.
I lived there from 2006-2010. It really depends on where you are. My wife is Malaysian and the only time we were told off by authorities was when I was laying on her lap near KLCC. We weren't doing anything other than chatting, but apparently it was a little too much for KLCC. We lived in Subang for a while, but nobody ever said anything to us about holding hands. In general though, if we went to a more Muslim area, we tended to be a bit less affectionate.
I think there are specific laws that only apply to Muslims, but yeah, I wouldn't make too many PDA's in Malaysia, save it for the bedroom.
