Japanese men's snowboarders Ayumu Hirano and Taku Hiraoka made history as the first Asians to win medals in an Olympic snowboarding event. 15-year-old Ayumu Hirano is Japan’s youngest Winter Games medalist ever, as well as the youngest in a snow event, beating the record of Austria’s Traudl Hecher, who was 16 when she won bronze in the alpine skiing downhill in 1960.
Well, Another history in Winter Games was our lone representative in Figure Skating. His name is Michael Christian Martinez, he is only 17 yrs old. The youngest in Figure Skating this year and first representative of the Philippines and Southeast Asian country to compete in Figure Skating category in Sochi Winter Olympics. He started to skate inside the Shopping mall ice skating rink in the Philippines last 2005 so he is just an amateur but talented to compete to those professionals and well experienced than him and now he already competed in winter Olympics, He landed top 19 from 30 during the first competition to moved to the final round & free skate. He landed top 13 or 14 during the free skate from top 24, but failed to get in top 10 or 12 for medal category. It's a great debut for first timer and specially, we don't have winter in the Philippines. So he got potential and he need a lot of preparation and hopefully see him again on 2018 with more practice, training and more experience.
