It could be that expats are traveling more from Singapore.

In general, I've noticed that most locals of most places (and this is true of everywhere in the world), just don't explore that much out on their outer periphery of places they could go.

For example, many people who grow up and living in Portland have never been to Seattle.

Perhaps, something to that effect is occurring...

Yes it would be cool if small and rich countries like Singapore, Brunei and some others have more land. And with the population still moderately increasing. this would increase the economy and the quality of life of the citizens.

Singapore, Brunei, HK, Macau and British overseas territories don't need to increase farming. The cost of running the industry is expensive than importing food from cheaper areas.

Well. Singapore has done land reclamation over the years. Beach Rd used to be adjacent to the sea for instance. Reached the limits of practical in filling. No where to go.

Singapore has done a ton of land reclamation over the past few decades and will do more over the next 10 years, IIRC another 10% could potentially be added in land area. It's a common theme among wealthy small nations (see the reclamation projects of Monaco, Hong Kong, Macau etc.).

While it's not like they could be as large as Taiwan ever, they've done well for themselves with the resources at their disposal.
