I meant Brasilians not Portuguese.
I guess it's because Americans took over and introduced Basketball. If they didn't take over, Football for sure would have been more popular in the Philippines. Former Barcelona player Paulino Alcantara was a Filipino- Spanish who played football in the Philippines, Catalonia and Spain. He was the first Filipino and Asian player to play in a European team.

The first Miss International from Colombia Stella Marquez de Araneta is also married to a a Filipino businessman Jorge Araneta.

Seems like Filipino men are quite appealing to Western women after all... And imagine, not just any women but international beauty queens ( First Miss Universe, First Miss International and 1993 Miss Universe ).

A certain type of Filipino men, the mestizo type...Eurasian men in general seem quite popular really.

^Probably rich but not necessarily mestizo type. Most of those married to those beauty queens and models seems to be more Malay-Austroloid than obvious mestizo.
