what do mean by city population? Chongqing is called a city, but actually it is more like a province, with an area of more than 30k km. The population of the urban area in Chongqing is less than 10 million.
Yes the Chongqing municipality is really big in area, well beyond the city limits, which is responsible for the 30 million figure that is often quoted. It's really a large chunk out of Sichuan province.
If we are talking about urban population, Shanghai is about 22 million, BJ 19 million, Guangzhou 15 million, Shenzhen 15 million. All the rest are below 10 million.

yep.
Chongqing is indeed an exception as it is unusually large in size.
I don't want to emphasize too much about the urbun population concept. China is rapidly urbanizing. Millions may not be urban in the above cities, but they will be in a matter of 5-10 years. The point I am making is the massive size of these Chinese cities (most of them are pretty wealthy with average GDP above $10K nominal. Suzhou is over $18K) and the potential market there - each city is similar to a small country.

Yes, Chongqing is as large as Austria in land size, with 3.5 times the population.
Two good examples that you may consider: Zhujiang river delta and Yangzi river delta. Both are highly urbanized and developed city clusters, with 50 million for Zhujiang delta and 100 million for Yangzi. They are comparable to South Korea and Japan.
