What do you think if Japan drill near Diaoyu island? They controlled it way before 1974. I think Diaoyu belongs to China and was taken by force from Japan. At the end of the day it's whoever more powerful will take it, there is no justice in this world. Just like Vietnam took a lot of lands from Cambodia.
The Senkaku Islands belong to Japan.
In 1971, the US President Richard Nixon confirmed Japan's "residual sovereignty" over the Senkaku Islands just before a deal to return Okinawa Prefecture to Japan , according to recordings and other materials kept at the Nixon Library in California. Nixon made the confirmation in a conversation with his national security adviser Henry Kissinger. The CIA also stated in related documents that the Japanese claim to sovereignty over the Senkakus is strong and that any dispute over the islands would not have arisen had it not been for the discovery of potential oil reserves on the nearby continental shelf in the late 1960s.
You are saying Japan's claim on these islands is valid because Nixon said so? Moderator cut: personal attack

Some people refer to the Overseas Chinese people as the Jews of the Asian Mongoloid race, since the Overseas Chinese population in countries like the U.S, Thailand, and Philippines have produced a lot of successful wealthy entrepreneurs.
These riots led to decrease investment, trade and tourists from mainland China and Taiwan to Vietnam.
One reason they also attacked Taiwanese businesses in Vietnam in this riot was probably because Taiwan rules Taiping Island in the South China Sea under the name "Republic of China". The Vietnamese think that island belongs to them, so were angry with Taiwan Chinese too in addition to Mainland Chinese.
An example of a foreign dissatisfaction with Taiwan.

The ethnic Chinese in Southeast Asia have not always been welcome by their host nations. There have historically been a number of violent incidents committed against them. One reason is said to be jealousy because the ethnic Chinese have often been more financially successful than the ethnic majority in those nations.

To me, what's more impressive of the older generation of Chinese who have migrated to places like the U.S. 20 or 30 years ago is the level of hard work, attained education and established careers in areas like the sciences and engineering. I'm friendly with many Chinese living in the U.S. who now proudly call them selves American's, many of them Christians, and let me tell you they are an impressive group of people. Some still carry with them old Chinese habits and cultural customs, but they have done very well for themselves here in the U.S.
The new generation of Chinese immigrants are of a different breed, esp the university students who now come over here, then go back to China hardly putting in any work/study to help dad manage his factory or local business in China.
What’s important to remember about the early Chinese immigrants to America was the terrific racism and oppression they faced and overcame. Those touristy Chinatowns were ghettos. Housing covenants right up into the 1950’s banned property ownership to both blacks and Asians. And into the 1960’s in some southern states it was illegal to marry partners of a different race.

Yeah, that's the most important takeaway from ethnic protests in Vietnam six years ago.
