Here is the balcony view from my recently purchased studio on the edge of Bangkok. This is the third home I have purchased here over a 12 year period. I know BKK is a hot topic in the Asia Forum....any questions?

PS: The obstruction is fish netting used to keep the pigeons off the balcony and air conditioner.

710,000...including all land office taxes and transfer fees. 30.85 square meters. An older part of BKK Metro that developed due to accessibility to river transports, as well as rail...now served by subway and busses. Commuters take the ferry to the central business areas, but there is an extremely diversified local economy.

I take it that the view is of the Chao Phraya River. Looks like a pretty decent view. You mention it's in an older area of the city near river transports. Is that near the Klong Toey district? You also said the cost was 710,000. I presume that's in baht.

just north of Bang Sue..I can walk to Yaek Tiwanon Station on the MRT Purple Line. 710,000=21,619 USD.

That's the figure I came up with as well on XE Currency Exchange website. Not a bad price to own a condo with a view. Is that the river in your photo, or the khlong?

That is the river...about 1000 feet wide, from sea wall to sea wall, at the bridge. I can take a bus for 6.5 thb to Democracy Monument, then the canal ferry for 10 THB to Sukhumvit...or MRT to Asoke for 52 THB...or River Ferry to Sathorn Pier for 15 THB...the busses have been suprisingly good, frequent, and cheap...and the 203 runs 24/7. The largest train station in SEA is more than half complete..that is 4 stops on MRT or an easy bus ride, which practically traces the MRT route. Eventually, it will be an incredibly extensive rail network..Saigon, KL, Sing, Kunming...I wont pay more for the train than the plane, though.

Property taxes are zero. Condo fee is 150 USD..every six months, and that includes the premium I pay to live on a high floor, which I think is fair (three elevators). I just got a water bill for 3.30 USD, for August. 50/20 Internet is 19 USD per month, and includes 30 channels of TV..but only Fox News and Channelnewsasia in English...oh, and Fox@home. I watch mostly
youtube on my 32 inch Sony Smart TV, that was 235 USD.

24 hour security, older but decent pool, mini-market in the lobby (never closes). An abundance of modern 12 Kg load washing machines at 60 cents per load.

1. I know you moved from CM, do you prefer the climate in BKK or CM more?
2. Who do you hang out with?
3. Did you consider cities outside of Thai?
4. Based on that apartment, doesn't seem expensive....what is the cost differential between BKK & CM?

Well-done!

Just thinking of myself potentially trying to buy a condo in BKK someday myself. If you wanted to, could you rent it out? What would you be looking at to do that? Who would be the market for that? How much would you charge them for daily or monthly? How much vacancy would you be looking at, if you were to try to do something like that?
