Thai celebrity pushed around by queue-cutting Chinese tourists at Jeju airport, goes on epic rant: Shanghaiist

A two minute rant by Thai celebrity Duangjai Phichitamphon about the unruly behavior of Chinese tourists at a Korean airport has gone viral, sparking furious online debate and condemnation by the media in Thailand.

In the video, the angry Duangjai is seen being pushed around by a throng of Chinese scrambling for a tax refund booth, claiming that everyone was queuing in an orderly fashion before a Chinese tour group turned up.

She is absolutely right. China still has a huge number of uncouth people who have no clue about civilized behavior. These are just Chinese peasants with new clothes and a few yuans in their pockets. China is growing rich faster than it is growing more civilized and courteous.

One of my close friends, who is a Jeju native, complains all the time about the Chinese tourists flooding the island, making the place "not Korean" anymore.

Yes, this is what happens when you take a population that only years ago was 80% agrarian and stick them in cities. This will take generations to correct.

I agree that Duangjai Phichitamphon (she's a fashion model in Thailand) had a right to complain. Makes me wonder if maybe some Chinese tour guides might prompt the notion in advance to their tour groups that it's okay to cut ahead in line instead of waiting their turn like everyone else. It's not the first time unruly Chinese tourists have hit public attention. In 2013, a teenage Chinese tourist defaced an ancient Egyptian monument. Authorities in China were said to have been outraged stating that Chinese tourists should act more civilized in other countries. I doubt that had much effect in changing such behaviors though.
Singapore Seen | China government asks tourists to act civilized overseas after

That said, I've seen plenty of Thais in Thailand (and at airports) jump ahead in line rather than wait their turn, although they aren't so pushy or try to elbow their way through other people to get ahead in line. It seems to happen when lines are several people wide. It's still pretty inconsiderate though. I've also seen that happen at West Coast US international airports too.

That generation (born in the 1950~60s) also had poor education due to cultural revolution and poverty. Those who were born in the 1980s are already much better.

The Chinese tour companies should be fined and financially held responsible for the cleanup of the mess that any Chinese tour group caused. Let the Chinese police themselves; the best way is to use the Chinese to control the Chinese.

I have personally seen young mothers (80's and later generation) holding their kid while they pees right into a sink or a flower pot in a public place; this happens both inside and outside of China! These uncouth behavior will take a very long time to disappear because even the younger generation have very limited understanding of their civic responsibility. This is why many Chinese actually lament that their countrymen are like "rats crossing the road" where nobody likes them. It's not racism, it's the fault of the Chinese themselves that foreigners do not like them. What's worse is that their bad behaviors are awful enough in China, making it a filthy and unsanitary place, but the Chinese bring their bad behaviors outside of the country when they travel or immigrate. The Japanese often try to persuade Chinese tourists by saying that "these actions are not allowed in Japan", implying that these bad behaviors are ok in China because the Chinese are innately dirty and rude (which should be taken as a huge insult).

The Japanese are probably the cleanest and most polite people in the world, in stark contrast to the Chinese. China still has a lot to learn from Japan. I call it like it is.

"Nasty Chinese Tourists Mega Thread" is probably more fitting for the title of this topic. I can't even remember when's the last time I didn't see any ****ed-up behaviors from the Chinese on the internet or on tv.

China Outbound Tourism: Palau Cuts Flights From China To Alleviate Tourism Pressure
Here's another one. I hope the rest of the world will follow Palau at some point, lol.

More and more Chinese will travel abroad. That is inevitable.
Those places should build more hotels and more restrooms, hire more janitors and Chinese translators.

Only 20 years ago, 90% Chinese were poor farmers who had no dignity in the society. It is impossible to ask farmers to behave like civilized urbanites all the time. If you compare their behaviors with those from other dirty poor countries (Vietnam, India, Egypt, ...), you may not feel so bad. China is definitely not Japan.
