Here in Tianjin as in most places in China little or nor English is spoken and even though I'm learning a bit, it is tiring as I've yet to meet a taxi driver who can communicate in other than Mandarin. My cell phone picture, business cards, and attempts at Chinese generally get me home and other places.
One question for you all - in Phuket , Penang, and KL can taxis accommodate 4 people with suitcases or will we need to hire 2 taxis?

The level of English in Thailand is similar to China: few people can speak it, and those that can do are generally not fluent. But the difference is Thailand is very touristy, so a lot people who work in hotels, tourism, retail.etc or who deal with a lot of services can usually speak very basic English. But often not either. There will still be communication issues with taxi drivers.etc.
In Malaysia I admit I never have to speak any Malay. Unless you're dealing with something official, or out in the kampong, English will suffice.
There are the usual 4-5 seater taxis: hmmm, might depend how big your suitcases are. 4 big suitcases is a bit of a stretch, but if they're 4 small ones or backpacks.
Oh in Central Thailand expect it to be WET since July is the monsoon season...just to warn you. It's low season in much of Thailand, but just be warned disruptions are possible.

If you travel light with nothing larger than carry-on luggage bags, one taxi should be fine for 4 people (3 in the back seat, one in the front). Depending on the size of the passengers, 3 in the back seat might feel a bit crammed. No need for large check-in luggage. You can buy clothes, goods and personal hygiene products very cheap in Thailand if you avoid most of the typical tourist traps. If you shop at weekend markets, night markets or street vendors, bargain for a lower price. Don't go too low though. Just look for what you would consider a good price, especially compared to prices for similar things back home. Talats will often have clothes, etc, that are cheap and seldom require haggling over the price. The point is to travel as light as you can. There's nothing more of a hassle than having to lug around with a bunch of large suitcases, especially if it isn't necessary.
KL was a really dirty city. And we even encountered one restaurant where they were reusing food. Lots of sanitary concerns in Malaysia.
I just found Malaysia to be a very boring place overall.
Bangkok, Pattaya and *****et are all amazing though. Obviously Bangkok has some grimey sections, but it's much more modern and westernized, catering to tourists.
Malaysia is basically all the dregs left that weren't civilized enough to live in Singapore. I would never waste my money going there again.

What are you comparing it to? KL isn't the cleanest city in the world, but I would hardly call it 'really dirty', especially compared to a lot of Southeast Asian cities. I've never heard of restaurants reusing food. It might go on, but it's not commonplace there.

You obviously don't 'get' Malaysia, or it's true appeal...

Please take easy less than two hours airplane flight between them rather than bumpy bus 10 to 20 hours+ through rough terrain. They are next door neighbors. Malaysia is Middle Eastern according to various facts in observation. Thailand actually almost has a light subtle background in the furthest south provinces, yet still isn't even reaching this predominant feature that much in relation. Buddhist Southeast Asian not quite counting.
Welcoming to foreigners, and fair even representation in winning.
Ironically, Malaysia has even nicer hotels, and quantity in exact amount of cities, and towns to take in. Outside of Bangkok, far further rural in character, yet having 8 to 9 million people in city limits compared to 1.7 million in Kuala Lumpur. Thai language extremely exotic in writing, while Malay is occasionally easier to read.
Malaysia is way up in recent or long withstanding popularity compared to what some onlookers may believe. Millions in amount of tourists entering. Simultaneously, tons of infrastructure support, too. Massive infinite embracing.
It is dangerous in Southern Thailand .
So it is better to fly between both countries.

No international flights in Thailand through 30 June, but lots of places are reopening, like the malls. Might actually do a cone at DQ, this afternoon..

Southern Thailand has long been fairly volatile. It’s the part of the country that gets the least amount of tourists.
