I am currently backpacking in Australia from the United States. Since I have been in Australia for a few months now and winter is approaching, I am leaning towards taking a 1 week trip to Bali to chase the warm weather (and massages).
I am a 22 year old American male. During this trip, I want to relax to the fullest- enjoying the warm weather, beaches, massages, and cheap food & drinks.
Safety is my number 1 concern, though!
Can anyone recommend me a cheap/safe hotel and places to stay?
Can I just book a flight to Bali and go? Or do I need to do some previous paperwork? I have my passport with me.
Also, any other tips would be greatly appreciated!
Bali for Australians is like Cancun to Americans - Kuta is more like Sydney then Jakarta (well, in terms of it being western friendly and familiar). Safety is not a concern, unless you count overdrinking and sunburns.
There are so many places to stay there I wouldn't even know where to begin - I would advise you to check with aussies while you are in OZ because it is such a popular place with the people there. Also do a search here because I know there have been Bali threads in the past. You do not need a visa for Bali.
Now, if you really want a treat, leave the tourist slums of Kuta as soon as you arrive in Bali, head up to Ubud, maybe head over to Lomback or Gili. Bali is a pretty big island with some isolated parts that rewards those willing to look....or you can just get drunk for a week in Kuta like all the rest of the Aussies do.
